TÜV-certified carbon footprint assessment in accordance with international standards

The calculation methods used by the Climate Initiative of the Printing and Media Federation have been successfully verified by independent experts and certified by TÜV Austria (TA290255999 and TA290255998). This confirms that both the Product Carbon Footprints (PCF) and the Corporate Carbon Footprints (CCF) are calculated in accordance with recognised international standards.

Proven methods – reliable results

The TÜV Austria certification confirms the conformity of the calculation methods for product-related carbon footprints (PCF) with DIN ISO 14067:2018 and for company-related carbon footprints (CCF) with the Greenhouse Gas Protocol (GHG Protocol).

This means that all balance sheets created by members of the Climate Initiative using the BVDM’s CO2 calculator also meet the requirements for standard-compliant calculation of their CO2 emissions. Key requirements for transparency, traceability and comparability are met and correspond to the current state of science and regulation.

Practical and industry-specific

The calculations in the Climate Initiative calculator were developed specifically for the requirements of the printing and media industry. They take into account industry-specific production processes, material flows and energy consumption, and enable realistic, practical recording of greenhouse gas emissions – without unnecessary complexity. And now their compliance with standards has been confirmed externally, which means even greater security for companies and customers.

TÜV Austria certification offers companies a reliable basis for:

  • Internal management of climate protection measures
  • External communication of CO₂ data
  • Requirements from sustainability reporting (e.g. CSRD)
  • Customer enquiries about reliable emission figures
  • At the same time, it builds trust among business partners, clients and stakeholders
  • Reliable standard for the industry

With its TÜV Austria-certified methodology, the climate initiative of the printing and media associations sets a uniform, recognised standard for CO₂ accounting in the printing and media industry. This provides companies not only with figures, but also with a reliable basis for decision-making on their path to greater climate protection and transparency.
