The BVDM (Printing and Media Industries Federations) climate initiative. Now produce a climate balance with the software from Printplus

From now on, participants in the Printing and Media Industries Federations climate initiative can automatically access the calculations for CO₂-emissions of print products from the Management-Information Software (MIS) Printplus DRUCK. A prerequisite is the latest update 2018.0.0.10 from Printplus DRUCK.
The climate initiative of the BVDM (Printing and Media Industries Federations) now offers more advantages. Over the new interface between the federations` CO₂-calculator and the MIS-software Printplus DRUCK, it is easier for printing companies to show their customers production-related emissions.

The calculation can be performed automatically with MIS accessing the BVDM (Printing and Media Industries Federations) CO₂-calculator and returns the corresponding values to MIS. This enables the CO₂-emissions of a print job to be predicted at the quotation stage by pressing a button and, after the job is completed, compensated for and thus produced in a climate-neutral manner.
Also the logos and certificates that customers like to receive as proof of their commitment to climate protection can be automatically downloaded in the MIS from Printplus. This provides customers with maximum transparency as regards the environment compatibility of their jobs or rather the possibilities for compensation via CO₂-reduction projects and a preview of the costs involved.

“With all this, we are pleased to make another important contribution to simplifying climate protection in the field of printing“, comments Julia Rohmann, consultant for environment protection at the BVDM (Printing and Media Industries Federations).

Alex Sturzenegger, Managing Director of Printplus, explains: “With the automated calculation, printing companies in particular can save time and money because they no longer need to separately log in and calculate.“

The BVDM (Printing and Media Industries Federations) offsets its CO₂ emissions

The Printing and Media Industries Federations worked climate-neutral in 2017. This was achieved by measuring its CO₂-footprint with the federations`climate calculator and offset it with climate protection measures taken in the project “Efficient cook stoves in Mali”.

Already ten years ago, the BVDM (Printing and Media Industries Federations) was one of the first trade associations in Germany to demonstrate the possibilities of climate protection in its industry. And even more: with the climate initiative, the Printing and Media Industries Federations actively supports the companies in implementation. Today it is a much-admired provider of climate and environment protection within the industry and beyond.

For three years now, besides product-related emission detection, the climate calculator also calculates the companies CO₂-footprint. This year, the BVDM (Printing and Media Industries Federations) once again measured its CO₂-footprint and offset it.

“We know that more and more customers in our industry take climate protection very seriously“, reports the BVDM (Printing and Media Industries Federations)-Managing Director Dr. Paul Albert Deimel. “Our initiative encourages solidarity for greater sustainability which is in everyone’s interest and at the same time helps printing companies to position themselves as environment-conscious services providers.“

Committed to climate protection: The BVDM (Printing and Media Industries Federations) climate initiative is ten years old

For ten years now, printing companies have committed themselves to climate protection within the climate initiative project of The BVDM (Printing and Media Industries Federations), and have produced more than 131,000 different print jobs in a climate-neutral manner. This year, the printing companies that have participated in the initiative since the beginning are to receive awards for their ecological commitment.

With their climate initiative, the BVDM (Printing and Media Industries Federations) and the Printing and Media State Associations support printing companies in quantifying the emissions of individual print products, optimizing them and lastly to compensate for them, in other words offset them. They have now been doing this for ten years.

And the results of this joint commitment are impressive. Since 2007, more than 131,000 different print jobs have been produced in a climate-neutral manner, and in the process a total of 185,000,000 kilograms of CO₂ have been offset through investments in climate protection projects.

In this year the federations and associations are to honor all the companies that have participated in the climate initiative from the very beginning for their commitment. Among other things they will receive a certificate that will be personally handed over.

“The climate initiative of the federations and associations is a success story that would not have been possible without all the companies that were convinced about it from the outset “, emphasizes Dr. Paul Albert Deimel, Managing Director of the BVDM (Printing and Media Industries Federations). “They deserve the utmost thanks for their trust and commitment. “

The objective of the climate initiative of the Printing and Media Industries Federations is to contribute to climate protection, to counteract global warming and limit its effects. It follows a holistic climate protection approach based on the following principle: greenhouse gas emissions must be quantified and reduced. This is achieved in practice with an energy efficiency analysis and the provision of a CO₂-calculator developed with scientific expertise. The unavoidable emissions are compensated for by recognized climate protection projects and “neutralized“ so to speak.
